Haldi or in German: “turmeric powder”, is also known as “Indian saffron” and is obtained by grinding dried turmeric roots, which are yellow and therefore give the dish an additional yellow color. This Indian spice is the most widely used in Indian cuisine. Indian turmeric powder is used in almost all Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, including lentil and meat dishes, and in South Asian cuisine. Turmeric powder gives Indian dishes a warm, mild flavor.
