is a star-shaped spice used in Asian cultures for cooking and medicinal purposes.  Star anise, commonly known throughout India as “Badian Khatai”, is one of the most commonly used spices in Indian cuisine.  Star anise is used to season curries, confectionery and pickles. The dried, star-shaped seed pod gives many meat and vegetable stews a delicate aniseed flavour. Also ideal for seasoning sauces, marinades and desserts.  These star pods grow from the evergreen tree Illicium verum, which grows in parts of Southeast Asia.  Star anise is also used in tea.
